This was my first time watching the move Thank You for Smoking and I will say it is not what I expected. It definitely made me think about why the characters in the movie made someone of the decisions they did. The main character, Nick Naylor, is a tobacco lobbyist, which means he defends the use of cigarettes in public. With every argument he makes, he always wins.
If I worked for a Vuse company instead of a tobacco company, I do not believe it would make much of a difference for me.
Both products have the same effect no the environment in the long run, so I would honestly take whatever the best deal was for me. Some people may think differently, but that is everyone opinion about what they want to do.
Some old movies are starting to edit out cigarettes, as to not promote them to younger generations. I believe that this should not happen just because the movie has already been out for a while and has already done most of its damage.
The reporter in the movie, Heather Holloway, is driven to expose the truth. She ultimately reveals real, harmful practices by the tobacco industry.
However, her methods raise ethical concerns:
-She blurs professional and personal boundaries
-She uses deception to get a story
So while her goal is justified, her methods are very ethically questionable.
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie and it really made me think. I would go back and watch it again.
